Singing for Inanna (Mulfran Press, September 2014)
Singing for Inanna, poetry in English and Arabic by myself and the Iraqi poet Adnan al-Sayegh with translations by Ruba Abughaida and ourselves and cover art by the distinguished Iraqi artist, Suad al-Attar.
It includes a CD of recorded poetry by Adnan and myself with specially composed oud music composed and played by Patricia de Mayo and incidental oud music by the great Iraqi oud player, Naseer Shamma. Produced by Rowland Prytherch, including the song Anthem for Gilgamesh.
More than 100 people came to celebrate the launch at Keats House and we had to keep putting out more and more chairs. There was a lovely mix of English and Arab friends and colleagues and young musicians who had worked on the song and film.
“Thank you for a fabulous event yesterday evening. It was great to see so many people here – many of whom had never been to Keats House before. Congratulations on a wonderful event.”
