The culmination of our amazing Writing Mesopotamia project came on 25th September with the launch of our Singing for Inanna book of poems in English and Arabic by myself and the Iraqi poet Adnan Al-Sayegh with translations by Ruba Abughaida and ourselves and a CD of recorded poetry by Adnan and myself with specially composed oud music played by patricia de Mayo and incidental oud music by Naseer Shamma. Published by Mulfran Press, CD arranged and produced by Rowland Prytherch, art by Suad Al-Attar.
Around 100 people came to celebrate with us and Vicky carroll, Curator of Keats House, and her team had to keep putting out more and more chairs. There was a lovely mix of English and Arab friends and colleagues and young musicians who had worked on the song and film.
This is what Vicky said about the event –
Thank you for a fabulous event yesterday evening. It was great to see so many people here – many of whom had never been to Keats House before. Congratulations on a wonderful event.
